Get Me Downunder

The Adventure Starts Here

Hi, my husband is currently a full time postman in the UK and has been for 32 years, and we are looking to emigrate.  We can`t seem to find out about postmens jobs, prospects and wages. Anybody out there able to help?

Hi Lumina Lexi,   We`ve been on that site a few times and whilst its helpful for a general view of Aussie Postal jobs they don`t give out any actual rates of pay so he might just have to fill out the application form to get the information we need. Thanks for your help ,      Annie

I can't help you with wages Annie, but here in NSW they also have private contract postmen for out of town deliveries. Perhaps worth thinking about.

Regards.

hi annie.as far as im aware postmen are not on the skills list.what visa was you thinking of coming out on?i was a postie myself but packed in the job and re trained as a nurse to get out here. the best decision i ever made. the process is not as easy as they make out on the telly.i suggest you look at the different visas and skills in demand list before getting your hopes up.let me know what you think.theresa
Hi everybody thanks for your input,   we have managed to find a comparison wage site that has given us a good idea of what to expect, looks better than here!! Le Loup your comment was very interesting regarding the contract postman, will have to check that one out.  we are not looking to go out on the skills list but on Contributory Parents visa as my eldest son emigrated 4 years ago. At present my youngest son is also out with his brother and says he cannot believe how expensive everything is since he was last out 2years ago. They are both in Adelaide.  Lots to consider!!!!!!

Hi Annie,

Hope you don't mind me asking but what was the comparison wage site you found? I too am a postie in UK and we're moving down under this year, on hubbys skills obviously not mine ha ha but have looked at being a postie down there too and as you say it doesn't give you the rates of pay!

Hope you decide to do it!

Jackie

Hi Jackie. hubby says he can`t recall which site he used and the only one I can find is trueknowledge. they give a comparison of aus dollars 40,872 which is £26,208. This is average earnings. I did see a part time trainee position advertised in Hindmarsh Adelaide which gave the wage as between aus dollars 20,000-------25.000  which is roughly £13,000 ---- 17.000 for something like 15 /20 hours. Where are you thinking of heading for as the pay may vary as it does here in the UK?  regards,     Annie

Hi Annie, thks for that info, well thats better than UK isn't it! We're heading to the gold coast as we have friends in that area and thats where hubbys work will be! I won't be working straight away but its always worth looking at these things!

Thks again, Jackie
