Get Me Downunder

The Adventure Starts Here

Hi Everyone

My Wife and I lodged our skilled migration visa in December 09, using my occupation as a carpenter for the main visa applicant, we used True Blue Migration, who have been great, but like anyone in our situation, we cannot wait for our visas to arrive, as you can appreciate, and just want to get to Oz asap.

According to the DIAC website our visa should take 18 - 24 months to process and have in our hands, but we were wondering if anyone had been assinged a case officer and got it in this time period, or was in the process of getting it, and how long it has taken so far.

Given the current situation of the building industry in the UK, we just want to get to Australia where it is thriving and start our new life, which is going to be in Queensland.

We look forward to any tips and advice anyone can give us at this stage.

Thanks

Neil & Maxine

Hiya mate we applied for our 176 in sept 08 and finally got it nov 2010 , and are now living on the sunshine coast in caloundra, the quickest way would be for you to find a sponsor (good luck ), but i tried that and its like banging your head against a big brick wall, there is a lot of work in brisbane at the moment- probably for the next 18 months, are you able to get a working holiday visa? SIMON .

Hi Neil & Maxine

I also live in Caloundra - Sunshine Coast - one hour from Brisbane & with all the re-development of homes due to floods - there should be a shortage of builders / carpenters.Look at recruiting agencies' vacancies. I relocate UK clients & many from a building industry background are coming here. ANNE

HI anne do you have any experience helping british electricians, as i am struggling to find long term work. regards SIMON ps you can email me on simonfoleyelec@aol.com

Hi
It took about 17 months for ours. We got our visa in June last year. Once we got a case officer things moved fairly quickly, it's just the waiting up until then that's frustrating! Hope you have news soon. Good luck
Julie

Hi Simon,

We'll have vacancies for electricians at our London event - have a look at www.downunderlive.co.uk

Cheers

Hi

We applied for our 176 queensland state sponsered visa in march 09, they only started processing it in december 10, but we had our medicals on friday, so hopefully we'll get ours soon. I think they need a few carpenters over there to rebuild brisbane, so thats probably why they decided to process mine. With that in mind you might not have to wait as long for yours.

Hi

We lodged our application for 176 GSM on 2/2/09, Heard nothing until 2/12/10 when we were requested to do medicals, police checks etc...  Did our medicals 22/12/2010, all ok so now awaiting the final decision.  Fingers crossed we should hear in the next couple of weeks.  We have completely the application ourselves without an agent.

We were told after we lodged our application that it would be the end of 2012 for final decsion hoever it is looking to be a lot sooner than that (all being well!).

Good Luck
