Childrens Passports - can you renew them once you have your visa, as we have 10 year ones and they have five year ones?

You can renew yours or children's passports at any time. If you renew the passport before the visa is finalised, you are required to send the new passport number to the Australian Government (DIAC).…

Agree with Paul in that it would be great to have a general "chat" area, so members can get to know each other better.

I wish this site had a proper forum rather than these blog posts, it would allow for better inter-action between members.

I totally agree. I do not want to see (and I am sure others feel the same way) these blogs on the website. They are not the reason why I visit Get Me Down Under!!!

I thought those weird posts from the New England Historical Re-enactment Society were bad enough. Whoever the site administrator is needs to take a tighter hold of the reigns.

PASSPORTS

Hi everyone.

In December we were granted our Visa's!!!! Horray!!! We are going to Australia in June to validate the visa's and just wanted to check something. Our old passports have already been sent to the Australian Embassy and have had labels attached (they have since been returned to us). But in May two of us will need new passports. Will this cause a problem? I have been advised that all I need to do is make sure I bring the old passports and the visa grant letter when

REGISTERING WITH NURSING BOARDS

I cannot believe the length of time it takes to register as a Midwife with a nursing board in Australia!!! I initially started the process in September of this year. Just today I received a letter with a large list of outstanding requirements that is necessary in order to progress with my application.

I do not understand that the information such as transcript/curriculum of the course which was originally sent to the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council by my University (and was then forwar… Continue

Emigrating to Victoria, Australia

I have just been reading the Ascroft family's story about emigrating to Perth. Like them - myself and my husband (Billy) have 3 children. Sarah the oldest is 15, Steven 13 and Callum 7. The problem is my oldest at 15 is refusing to contemplate Australia!! If anyone out there, including the Ascrofts have any hints to help her come round to the idea, I would be extremely grateful.

Some folk think we're barking as well. I lived in melbourne for 6 months when I was 9 years old. My hubby Nigel has never been. It's something we have planned for so many years now that it was just something we knew we would do eventually, now that its so close it is quite scary. My auntie is still in Melbourne, and wishes it was there that we were moving to. Are you selling your property? We're not, just in case we do come back. The way we're looking at the move is that its an adventure, if it works out great, we'll sell the house and buy there, if not, and I really hope its not NOT, then at least we've given it a bash and gave the kids a chance to see another way of life. They're 10 and 8, so the perfect age for the move really.Funny we've got a westie as well she's almost 4, but she isn,t comming over. She got unwell last xmas and as a result has got no tears, so over a thousand pounds later she's still no better, she is insured so she is going to stay with my sister in law. the insurance won't cover in Oz and she's not fit to fly with dry eyes. So that's going to be a teary goodbye. How much have you been quoted to take your pooch across? I,ve heard it's loads

Good luck let me know how you get on.

Hi Catherine go on Facebook and find me Lesley Jennings and add me as a friend and I will contact Victoria in Adelaide so she can let your daughter know how she likes it, etc. Have you been in the poms in oz website? There are some good people on there and they hold meetings all around the country. We have been to two one in Essex and one in Sheerness. We made some good friends. At least your kids have to go with you, ours probably won't come.
