Hi Dawny, I have one the guys already here on a 457 applying for his 186 thru an agent.
His costs are a flat 10,000 dollars. You can do it yourself for a lot less, but a good agent can avoid all the pitfalls you may encounter. According to latest information, you need to cross the border within 28 days of issue. Don't know if this still stands, things change regularly in the Australian Immigration dept.
You can transfer money to your UK bank accounts, I am with Natwest. I bank with Commonwealth bank in Oz and they charge 22 dollars per transaction and Natwest also make a charge the other end of about £8
Townsville is great by the sounds of it. The majority of my team in Perth are ex ADF and they all state it is a good place to live and bring up children.
