Hi Stephen,You should try reading Tony Horne's book,Hornes Down Under. It is a story of a family who travel from Cairns to Adelaide in a campervan. But they stop at a lot of places and the book gives a good brief synopsis of a lot of those places. I…

Jackie's advice is important because if you have paid anything into a UK state pension, you will still get that back at retirement age (which is rising in the UK), after you have migrated. However if you stopped contributing when you left the UK, yo…

Galvins Edge is about a 5 minute taxi ride from the airport and its well worth staying there, even if its just as a stop over till you pick up your Maui. At least they are friendly and provide with loads of food and drink - yes drink. (Wine and beer…

When we stayed in Cairns it was at a small family run B&Band it turned out to be really brilliant. Their website is http://www.galvinsonedge.com.au/ and I can highly recommend it. It can sleep up to four people because there are 2 bedrroms, 1 double…

Thanks all - very helpful comments. We knew we would have to get a migration agent to help us sort everything out but never realised how complex it all is. No wonder an agent is highly recommended. I best start saving my cash now.

A great place to stay in Cairns

When we stayed in Cairns it was at a small family run B&B and it turned out to be really brilliant. Their website is http://www.galvinsonedge.com.au/ and I can highly recommend it. It can sleep up to four people because there are 2 bedrroms, 1 double and 1 twin. You have a bathroom, small kitchen and living room. You can walk straight out onto a patio/garden area where there is a swimming pool. The price you pay is for the whole place regardless… Continue

Anyone know once you get a visa how long do you have timewise before you have to actually emigrate?

I think what I'm trying to ask is this: If you successfully get a visa, how long is it valid before you have to emigrate - 3 weeks, 3 months, what? I'm assuming you don't get a visa and then you have to drop everything and move immediately in like that week. Anyone know?

Never mind Neighbours, what about Summer Bay?

We visited the Summer bay beach on our last OZ trip. (real name Palm Beach). I'll post some pictures when I dig them out but has anyone else been there and what did they think. There was no filming there on the day we went but the surf was up and the water good. We actually got the local bus to Palm beach from Sydney. That was an adventure but great. Much better than UK buses if a bit more rickety!
