Like many Brits looking to escape, Michael Gregory and his family wanted a better lifestyle. “I emigrated with my wife Lesley and two children last year – we’d spent a while thinking about moving to Perth. We were looking to improve our lifestyle and the lifestyle of the children. We’re a sport mad family and there’s plenty here.”
The weather was also a big attraction. “Climate was, without doubt, a major factor. The weather’s fantastic here and on Sundays all the families come down… Continue

A couple of weeks ago on a Saturday night, I had just donned my pyjamas and removed my contact lenses in favour of my thick and unattractive glasses, when the evening suddenly turned from a comfy night in front of the TV, to an action packed adrenaline rush of madness.
No sooner had I got the children in their beds, than I received several text messages from my friends… telling me to look out of my window… So once I had unpacked the dishwasher, clipped my toenails and organised the… Continue

Well, there you go ... after all the disappointment over the house price and plumetting exchange rate, a contact I made in Oz has popped up and offered me a permanent job. So, we're currently in the middle of negotiating it all but essentially I'd be going over in January and working on a client site in Sydney which means I'd be back to living out of a hotel but that means they'd be picking up the tab for food, accomodation etc.
The wife would stay here to finish off the remaining… Continue

Myself and my husband run our own Mind Body Spirit business selling products on line, at exhibitions and at our shop. Check out our site at www.themagikthread.co.uk.We also facilitate workshops and therapies.
We are working hard to build the business up to support a move in the future on a business visa. We would love to continue what we are doing as it is so rewarding.
Anyone experienced this themselves??? Looking forward to chatting. :-)

When I visited the "Down under live" in London October 2008 - They were all still reeling after the Ozzie dollar hit an exchange rate of 2.6 to the pound. Looking at the exchange rates in September 2009 we've hit 1.91.
We are planning on moving to Adelaide in December and have about 6 months from our entry date to change our money (without incurring the wraith of the Ozzie taxman).
If you trace the trend of the exchange rate over the past 5 years… Continue

Hi! After reading several pieces of information and other peoples comments, it appears that you have to switch your British Driving Licence to Australian within 3 months of obtaining your visa. Can anyone shed some light on this information please? What happens if you can't get over there in the 3 months, or your house hasn't sold, or the timings not right to leave within the 3 months stated? What happens then? Would you have to complete a full driving test again then if its over 3 months???… Continue

Hi, moving to Brisbane in 3 weeks time and have been looking at banks. I've been on comparison sites and there are so many that simply honing it down to the top rates, leaves banks and building societies that I've never heard of. I've no idea about their reputation and how widespread they are, etc.
So I wonder if anyone could recommend a bank that provides reasonable rates but is widespread so I can find a branch and has a good reputation. What would be great is if they had a good… Continue

Hi Catherine, we have sold our house at last after 14 months so there is hope! Just waiting til tomorrow to find out if chain is viable as our buyer's buyer has to get mortgage approved and it's happening tomorrow. All so exciting but can't get too carried away yet as if this mortgage not approved, back to square 1 for our buyer. Have you had any joy yet? Lesley

Well we have finally sold our house after 14 months of hoping. Just got to wait now for the buyer of our house to have their buyer's mortgage approved and we have a viable chain. Will find out on Friday if all OK so fingers crossed. Looks like we may get there by early 2010 just in time for summer!
Very excited but also very scared. Anyone else nearer their goal yet?
