Why I took the Plunge shipped out to Oz, and why you should too!

Most of us get to a point in our lives where we yearn to broaden our horizons. Maybe you have progressed up the career ladder and want to move on to pastures new. As a trained accountant with just under a decade’s experience I fancied a change of scenery 15 years ago. A friend asked whether I had thought about moving to Australia as he had…

What Goals Do You Have for Your New Life Down Under?

Up until my recent decision to move to Australia (as discussed in my previous post here) I have to admit that when it came to school work, university and my career I have often been guilty of pretty much coasting through life.

Sure, I have done alright in school, thanks to pushy teachers and caring parents (apologies to you both!) that wanted to see me do well, and then I…

Why Australia? - What Was It Made You Move Down Under?

I don’t think that anyone would dispute the fact that Australia appears to be a uniquely awesome country. With that said, not everyone wants to visit there and even fewer would be prepared to up sticks and shift their entire life abroad leaving family, friends and loved ones behind. So why do people give that up and risk it all for a new life down under?

I can only speak for myself but I know that my reasons would fall very much into the same categories as many others…

Medication and costings

Hi there,

I'm currently on a mild dose of anti-depressants and have been for 3 years now. I am taking them for an old anxiety problem (not actually depression). My husband has recently passed his plumbing trade assessment and we are waiting for the children's passports to come through before we proceed with the online 175 visa application. Can you tell me if the fact that I am on medication is going to hinder us at all when applying for the 175 visa? I am worried when it…

Advice re - Jobs and Banks

Hi all, bit of advice please from anyone who has had experience in either of these matters.   We have our 176 visa and will be setting off to Brisbane in Sept 11 to start our new lives.

  • Firstly, should my hubby who is a builder wait until we arrive and then turn up on a site for work opportunities or would he be in a better position and perhaps obtain a job other than bricklaying if he sends off his CV to companies whilst still in UK?
  • Secondly, with opening…

Flight Centre sale

Flight Centre are having a flash sale and return flights from the UK to Brisbane are available (first-come first-served) for just £1.00 plus tax. Of course, the tax is a bit hefty but all in it's still only £399. Sale ends Thursday at 8pm.

http://www.flightcentre.co.uk/flashsale

Aussies, your chance to invite the relos over and for those of you in the UK, do pop round for a nice cup of tea.

We have emailed Elizabeth Downes Primary in Adelaide and they say their records dont go back to 1976-1980. Can anybody please give us any advise on how to get proof of registation? Any help would be most appreciated
