This week in Perth we've had temps in the high 30's, with over 40C predicted for the next couple of days; hope all the recent arrivals are coping!
Today is the first anniversary of my departure from the UK; it seems like yesterday there was all the hassle and stress of packing up our life in the UK before we took a month long holiday in the US on our way to Perth.
I don't miss the UK at all, just people, and with Skype and FaceBook and the like, the distance really isn't that far.
I landed a fantastic job a couple of months after arriving, I have a beautiful house close to the beach with my own pool and…Continue
After taking a while to get the mortgage (having no credit history here and only being in the country for five months), we got the approval yesterday so we can go ahead and buy the 4 bed, 2 bath house with a pool and spa in Currambine in Perth's northern suburbs. We move in on 25/2!
This house is probably twice the size of our last home in the UK and we can't believe how quickly we can get the keys; about five weeks since I first saw it!
Now at last we'll…Continue

Well I finally arrived in Perth at the beginning of September and have loved every moment so far!
I had about a week off before I did some work at Perth's Royal Show and whilst there secured a three month contract job through one of the recruitment agents I'd registered with in May; so went straight from the Show to the job with one day off in between.

Fianlly exchanged contracts on my house and have a move date, so on 3rd August I will fly out of the UK for a holiday across the USA for a month before flying from LA to Perth.
I fly out to Perth on Saturday to make my visa validation trip; I'm staying about 9 days then heading back to the UK.
My question is: should I mark the card as migrating permanently to Australia on this visit, or just as a temporary visitor?
You can see an example of the card here: http://www.evisastoaustralia.com/section06/customs.pdf
Amazingly our house sold within two days of going on the market and, if everything pans out correctly, we'll be leaving the UK in June!
First a holiday across the US and then arrive a month later in Oz, stopping off in Sydney before finally arriving in Perth.
I'm off in 11 days to get my visa validated and then it's sorting everything out in terms of what to sell, what to chuck and what to ship.
Anyone want to buy a car...? :-)
