Get Me Downunder

The Adventure Starts Here

Hi, moving to Brisbane in 3 weeks time and have been looking at banks. I've been on comparison sites and there are so many that simply honing it down to the top rates, leaves banks and building societies that I've never heard of. I've no idea about their reputation and how widespread they are, etc.

So I wonder if anyone could recommend a bank that provides reasonable rates but is widespread so I can find a branch and has a good reputation. What would be great is if they had a good mobile website as most of my interactions will probably be done this way. Many Thanks. Lisa

We plumped with NAB as I already have a UK account with the Clydesdale Bank.

As well as the big four, if you are moving to Brisbane you might want to look at the Bank of Queensland ( Note that most Australian banks charge a monthly fee for having an account. ANZ ( offer an account named V2 which has no monthly fee in return for keeping a balance of $5,000.

The 4 biggest banks in Oz are Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, National Australia Bank, & ANZ Bank.

All these banks have offices in the UK and run products specifically designed for migrants looking to move to Australia.

Well worth having a look at these, they of course have huge branch and ATM networks across Australia.

Apparently HSBC have quite a good reputation for transferring money as you can put it in your account this end and then access it over there!

Hope this helps!
