Get Me Downunder

The Adventure Starts Here

Hi there,

I'm currently on a mild dose of anti-depressants and have been for 3 years now. I am taking them for an old anxiety problem (not actually depression). My husband has recently passed his plumbing trade assessment and we are waiting for the children's passports to come through before we proceed with the online 175 visa application. Can you tell me if the fact that I am on medication is going to hinder us at all when applying for the 175 visa? I am worried when it comes to the medicals. Also do you know exactly what the 175 visa costs at the moment and if it is all payable upon submission of the online visa application? Many thanks for your help.

Alexandra,

You're not compelled to join a private health care scheme, but it does make sense.  Some medication can be covered by Medicare or by your insurer, but you'd need to discuss that with your provider, otherwise you will pay both the premium and the cost of the medication.  I suggest you do a bit of research, as I have no experience (never even been to a doctor here).

Hi Paul. You have to join a private medical care scheme I believe don't you? Is medicaiton then free or do you pay that aswell as your premium? Thanks

I don't think it will count against you, but you might want to investigate how much your medication will cost here; remember it's not free healthcare.
