Get Me Downunder

The Adventure Starts Here

Hi everyone.

In December we were granted our Visa's!!!! Horray!!! We are going to Australia in June to validate the visa's and just wanted to check something. Our old passports have already been sent to the Australian Embassy and have had labels attached (they have since been returned to us). But in May two of us will need new passports. Will this cause a problem? I have been advised that all I need to do is make sure I bring the old passports and the visa grant letter when entering Australia. Is this all that is required?

Hi Catherine, We are looking at the Brisbane Suburbs and Bayside areas. I will need to find employment when I get out there but my girfriend has work waiting so that we have an income from the start.
I am expecting to take a couple of steps backwards as I am an IT Network Manger and would be looking for engineering post and work back up the chain again. The economy is at its worst for changing money for 25 years, hopefuly the ellections will hav a goog effect and strengthen the pound a bit?
We are not sure wherever to buy outrigh as the interest rate is 7.5% in aus.
Why are you going in October, do you have a job waiting for you?

Regards,

John

Hi John. Thanks for the helpful information. It is a great feeling getting the passports back with the Label!!! It didn't take you long to validate your Visa!! Which part of Australia are you going to go to? We will be going to Melbourne and have to be there by October, really looking forward to it. Catherine

Hi Catherine,
First of all, congratulations, isnt it a great feeling when you get your passports back with the Visa!
We recieved ours back in October and validated them in december while on a trip for a month.
I have friends who moved out with only a few months left on their passports and they had renewed them and have to take both the old passport with the Visa and their new one when travelling.
When the passport office supplies you with a new passport you will have you existing ones returned with the corner snipped to show its replaced/updated.
The Passport office will confirm the details though, just give them a call.

Regards,
John

Hi Paul. I checked my two passports and there were 6 months left. The Labels were put on in December and they need renewed in June. I have checked with the Dept. of Immigration and Citizenship in London and they have advised me that all I need to do, is when I go to Australia, to bring the passports to their local office in Melbourne and they will put the labels in then.

I thought you had to have at least six months on your passport before they would apply the label?
