can anyone tell me how the points are awarded - does marital status, children get awarded points? any info would be great!

Hi Sal,
No there are points for or against marital status or children. The points are based on work skills, education, age, experience, English language skills etc. There are many points calculators around but be aware the criteria that decides whether you get the points is not bulit into any calculator, not even the Australian Dept. of Migration one! If in doubt give an Australian Registered Migration agent a call they should be able to give you a basic assessment for free over the phone. To find one go to

Try the link below.

It's a points calculator for the government website and should give you an idea on points required.

You get 40 - 60 points depending on job, so many points for age of applicant, level of English, points for spouse and a few other options.
