Get Me Downunder

The Adventure Starts Here

Hello to all blogers,

Can anyone give me some advice regarding the requirement of medical insurance coverage for a 457 visa.  I have been asked to organise medical insurance in order to fulfil the DIAC requirements.  I have been informed that this must be obtained prior to a visa being granted, however, do I start coverage now even though we might not get there until February/March 2011 or is this something that is agreed in principle (with a fee).  I am told that once coverage is obtained the insurers will provide me with a letter of confirmation?  I have looked at a number of policies including one with medibank (premierplus) at a cost of $295 per month.

Any comments are most apprieciated

Hi Claire, I have used Medibank with no problems. You take out cover which does not begin until you are in Australia and call in to their office to let them know you have arrived.
My mum and Dad took out cover to satisfy their retirement visa conditions, they were unable to take up their visa for various reasons and Medibank refunded the premium in full.
So take out the cover you will have no problems.
Regards, Michael.
