Hi
we are in a similar position, we are going for our meds on Monday, maybe you can tell me what that process involves?? I have been told that you have a year from your medicals to go over and activate them then you have 5 years to actually move out there permanantly if you can wait that long :) not sure if this info is 100% defo though but something like this!! Gud luck and let us know about meds please :)
We're going for our meds Thursday, the procedure is you have to go to a panel doctor in your country which are listed in the aus immi web site, theres only two in Ireland Dublin and Cork, they check your chest through x-ray, they do a series of blood tests and then a normal vision, heart rate etc...they then send them directly to sydney and its in their hands then...just cant wait till all these tests and waiting is over and we're on that plane :)...best of luck!!
Hi Janet. did you find out the defo info re 5 years to move out to oz? this 5 year thing seems a bit vague?? but with the uk housing market the way it is at the moment.......who told you this info? my migration agent seems to think this 5 year rule is a myth????:)

Just a quick word on the five year thing; you will have to make at least one trip on or before your initial entry date to validate your visa, then you can come and go during the five year period.  My visa allows for multiple entry.  The longer you spend away counts against applying for citizenship though.
Linda where on earth did you find that migration agent? Has he never seen a visa grant letter? The five year validity period is clearly spelled out as is the requirement for a resident return visa or citizenship if you want to enter Australia after the five years are up.

What sort of visa are you going for? As long as you don't mail your case officer all day every day, it is ok to ask how long they expect it to take. They will know if there are any freezes on certain migration and also what sort of caseload there is. IE I have been told to get offshore for the granting of mine, but it is not an instant thing...I can say I will go next week or next month but have been told to avoid the last two weeks of April due to public holidays in the UK. Good luck!!
Hiya
we recently got our visa grant letter and it clearly states on this that we have to make an initial entry to aus to validate our visas then we have 4 years to come an go as we please, in our case we have a house to sell here and some saving to do so we will be going to aus for a hol around January 2012 to validate visas then we will come back for maybe a year then hopefully be going back out in 2013 to live :) our agent is visa-go emigration based in Edinburgh, they had also told me that we had 5 years from our grant letter to get out there, but as Paul said the longer you are there with no breaks is better for getting citizenship as ideally you need to be in aus for 4 years with no breaks to apply for this, but stil not a major prob so yes the 5 year rule defo is true!!! Who is your agent?? They really should know this already :-/ anyway gud luck to you and if I can help with anything else just tap :)
jan
