Hi,
I'm hoping someone can answer a couple of basic and probably naive questions for me.
My husband and I are looking in to moving to Australia.
He is 32, I am 37 and we have 2 children.
My husband is a qualified diesel fitter and has 16 years experience.
I just don't know where to start.
Do we need to apply for visa's first or does he need to find work first?
It's such an overwhelming and complicated process and there's so many different websites and it's difficult to know which to trust.
Thanks.

Hi Victoria,
If you can find a company willing to sponsor your husband, you are probably more likely to get a visa.
Good luck!
Hi Victoria
I am also a diesel fitter and was in a very similar position myself i am married 34 my wife is 31 and we have two small children we decided last year we wanted to go to Australia but were unsure of where to start i didnt know which way to turn!
do i look for a job? do i go out to Australia and try and find work? what visa do we need to apply for? eventually i decided to contact an immigration agent who was extremely helpful, he advised us on the best possible route for us to move to Australia and stay there indefinately on the correct visa that would suit us as a family.
the visa i began processing was the skilled independant 175 visa which im led to believe is one of the more difficult visas to get also being a self employed diesel fitter i had to show alot of work related evidence also tax returns and had to complete the IELTS test and a skill assessment.
This can be a long process so i also continued applying for nearly every job that i could but Australian employers can sometimes show very little interest if you do not have a relevant visa eventually i had some luck and was offered a position in South Australia i went out last month to have a look at the workplace meet the people ect ect and will be starting work at the end of July hopefully i have now changed visas because i was offered sponsorship i will now be going on a RSM visa (regional sponsor migration visa) if you are willing to relocate to a more regional area this type of visa can be granted quite quickly i have been told.
i hope this helps a little
Hi Victoria & everyone else who responded here,
I just wanted to comment because I read that some of you are experienced fitters and looking to migrate to Australia.
I specialise in assisting people to find employer sponsorship in Australia, and some of my recruitment partners are currently seeking fitters, especially heavy diesel fitters.
One thing I would like to mention is that there has been a change in the Australian market when it comes to employer sponsorship and this is due to major delays in processing sponsorship visas. These used to be very quick to process, however; due to the number of people applying to migrate to Australia, the delays are coming from the VETASSESS end. I therefore recommend that at your very earliest you should apply for your skills assessment through VETASSESS because you will then be favoured above other applicants from overseas who are seeking employer sponsorship.
Be warned, the VETASSESS assessment is expensive; however, in many cases it is necessary to have, especially if you do not come from a commonwealth country. I suggest checking this out on the Australian Immigration Website website, or speaking to a migration agent to verify whether you require a VETASSESS for your situation.
If you like, feel free to send your CV through to us and we will see if you look suitable for any of our current vacancies offering employer sponsorship in Australia that are offering employer sponsorship in Australia.
You can send your CV to info @ nabthatjob . com. Be sure to introduce yourself and let us know your background when you send us your CV so we know a bit about your situation.
If we cannot assist you with a job right away, you can join www.sponsorshipaustralia.net and receive job alerts as they are posted so you can apply right away if you are suitable. Alternatively, you may be interested in our job search assistance services, or our 'how to find sponsored jobs in Australia' do-it-yourself package.
All the best!
