Money Exchange

Posted on August 20, 2009 at 16:58 2 Comments

I'm looking for some advise on exchanging money we have sold our house and there a resonable amount of money to exchange, I have been speaking to a company called FC exchange, who will exchange to currency at the market rate today $1.98 but the banks want to charge 1 - 2% which as the sum is quite large works out to be a lot of money. Has any one used FC Exchange. I don't want to hand over our life saving to a complete stranger over the phone without someone having used them. We leave a week on… Continue

Hi Richard.

What a kind thought, asking if you should buy my book again... But I won't ask you to do that!

To be honest, I just like helping out others who are making the brave move, I know how daunting it can be, and if I can make it easier for anyone, (and spread the word about how wonderful Australia is) then that is a good job done!

Now Schools is a tricky one. Have a look online at all the schools you have an interest in (I know Ashgrove has some prestigous ones) - here is a website for a list of the state schools...

I know you have probably already read in my book about NAPLAN (the OFSTED equivelant) so check out the schools result online too.

It's only physically going to a school that will determine how you feel though. So I wouldn't feel the need to rush in and enrol your children until you have been into the school.

Check out (on the houses that state they are in a particularly good school zone... this is normally indicated by the price of a property too (they normally whack up the price of a house in a good school zone)

In some cases, you could rent a house (albeit expensive) in the good school zone - then once the children are in and settled, you could move to a slightly cheaper property out of the zone and the children could still stay in that school.... but check with the school first - it could differ in larger cities... and it would be awful to have to change schools again.

Anyway, let me know if you need any more info, I don't mind at all.

Hi Richard..

I have just been talking to Rob (of ) and he suggested you could try looking into Manhattan Apartments. They are based in North Brisbane (Newstead) and have furnished accommodation.

Here is the email address....

Hi Richard, it's me again!

I have just put two and two together.. and realised that we have already had the conversation about where you were going!

Sorry 'bout that - you must think I'm nuts!

Did you manage to find a rental place, or are you still scouring the internet?

Did I also mention that you should bring a jumper.... it's getting a bit chilly here!

Bye for now :s

Thanks so much Richard, it is so great to get good feedback - especially as I am currently writing the second book.... 'one flew into a Kookaburra's nest'! (hey, that's an exclusive - only my publisher knows the name of the next book!)

It's a great site this getmedownunder - so many helpful people with excellent advice, but if you need anymore info on anything - don't hesitate to contact me....
When is you flight booked and where are you headed?

oh, one more thing - if you get a moment, it would be great if you could pop a smashing review on Amazon... it really helps with the rankings, and I'd be ever so grateful!

Good luck with your plans, and thanks again!
