Australian Schools league Tables

Does anybody know if there is in existence a league table of schools in say Adelaide or Melborne carried out by independent government inspectors, similar to those available in the UK

Education Fees in Australia

We're currently in the process of researching the possibility of a move down under to either Melborne or Adelaide.

Trying to get some idea of the educational facilities within these 2 areas for ages 11 & 13 currently, (more like 13 & 15 if & when we make it out there !)

We read one article that appeared to indicate that if the kids are not native Australians then the education was chargeable, but this has been denied by somebody we know who has just come back… Continue

my fifteen minutes

I have just cut an add from the Manly Daily (local northern beaches freebie). They're looking for extras for Home & Away and a few other Aussie dramas. I could be sitting in the diner munching a burger, gulping a smoothie......rubbing shoulders with celebrities! Heres hoping I look normal enough to hang with the Palm Beach crew!!

Will keep any fans out there this space

Hi, I,ve just joined-up. I am keen to emigrate to the Sunshine Coast with my hubby and 3 boys. I am a registered nurse but, as I am now 47 years old, am past it! for applying for a skilled visa and know that I've got to go down the employer sponsored route. Any tips from anyone please? Does anyone know if my age is a barrier?

Also my eldest son has autism and currently attends a special school. Does anyone know of the provision in Australia for children/young people with… Continue

Kiwi Music

I think Kiwi Music is awesome. The likes of Fat Freddys Drop, Salmonella Dub, Shihad, Shapeshifter, Tahuna Breaks as well as the Blacks Seeds make for excellent. I recommend that if you want a taste of New Zealand music, these are the bands you should look out for before you go to New Zealand, during your visit and after. I am absulutely 100% obsessed with New Zealand and its music. Give it a listen!

Melbourne Property Prices February 2009

combination of a lower number of auctions than in previous years and recent reductions in interest rates has helped to ensure a healthy number of buyers competing at auctions this weekend, with a clearance rate of 77 per cent being achieved. There were 436 auctions reported this weekend, with 337 selling and 99 being passed in, of which 70 were passed in on a vendor bid.

My boyfriend of 6 months has just broken the news to me that he wants to move to Australia and is going to start the ball rolling. Though this may not happen for a few years, it has taken me by suprise! I do love him and envisaged being together long term, but now I'm not so sure. I have never been there so I don't feel I can at this stage make this descision. He spent a year there a while ago but now he's turning 34, he wants to get back asap! The thought of leaving my mother behind, though I… Continue

Rain Rain and more Rain in Sydney

Thats it, I am building an arc!

Before making the journey to Sydney, I honestly didn't think it rained much here, or got cold for that matter. The winter woollies, rain jackets , hats and scarves and fleeces all got left behind. "Ha...fooled you", Sydney laughed at me that first winter and during my first storm, soaked to the skin.

Browsing through the shops, I had wondered why they were stocked up to the hilt with warm jumpers and fluffy coats. The first winter we didn't… Continue

Bankers ..... good ones by the looks of things .... not like the ones we have in the UK

We've just got our Migrant Banking account set up and the forms all signed ready to return to the bank and then we can move the cash for our holiday/reconnaissance trip.

I emailed 3 Australian banks, NAB, Commbank, and ANZ, and sat back and waited.

NAB replied within hours with a detailed email on how to set up an account etc.

Commbank replied a couple of days later with a very detailed but demanding form

ANZ eventually replied a couple of weeks later with an… Continue

Right at the very beginning...

Hi....I'm right at the very beginning of considering a move down under...I need to get out of this dank desperate country that appears to be falling to bits...

I'm finding it quite bewildering and I'm not sure where to start...

The main visa applicant would be my hubbie, who is solicitor. This seems to attract 60points, quite a lot, but is not on the in demand list. I'm currently a housewife, but previously managed a department in a law firm. We have 12 yr old son… Continue
