It’s tough for Brits migrating to Australia these days. What with the fall in the value of UK homes and the pound, the financial stresses of the move are far worse for migrants than a couple of years ago. So how about some good news for a change?
Did you know that if you’ve worked in the UK for more than 3 years but less than 30 years, you can continue to contribute towards the UK state pension even after you’ve left the UK?
Why would you want to do this, I hear you… Continue

I think what I'm trying to ask is this: If you successfully get a visa, how long is it valid before you have to emigrate - 3 weeks, 3 months, what? I'm assuming you don't get a visa and then you have to drop everything and move immediately in like that week. Anyone know?

Sat my IELTS test yesterday. It was vile!! The academic test is brain numbing...and having to not talk for nearly 3 HOURS!!! The actual test wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the time constraints, especially when they keep telling you how much time is left and you're not even half way through the questions!!!!!!! The speaking part was easier, 15 mins of talking about why I like shopping for clothes and friendships. But it's amazing how a topic that you could normally… Continue

We visited the Summer bay beach on our last OZ trip. (real name Palm Beach). I'll post some pictures when I dig them out but has anyone else been there and what did they think. There was no filming there on the day we went but the surf was up and the water good. We actually got the local bus to Palm beach from Sydney. That was an adventure but great. Much better than UK buses if a bit more rickety!

Hit a bit of a problem with the job I previously mentioned. It's not completely fallen through but an issue has popped up which may mean I need to body swerve the offer for a while.
While this is working itself out, can anyone recommend an agency which will place people still in the UK with employers in Australia. I've been applying for jobs in Oz but not getting very far as obviously the employers want someone already there to give the job to.
Thanks in advance.

My goal in life since 2004 has been to live and work in Australia. In the past; it would have been difficult for me to leave my current job, but now certain things have made it possible for me to change jobs in early 2010. I am going to be in Sydney and Brisbane for New Years. 2 weeks of fun, vacation, and relaxation. It seems to be that I am cursed in the financial department. I feel cursed for some reason. I am trying to get an online home based business going, but everything I have tried… Continue

Does anyone know .... if you are unable to sell your main UK property before taking permanent residence in Australia, so rent it out instead....are you liable for Capital Gains Tax in Australia or the UK later on down the line when you do finally sell it....?

The New Zealand government has just announced a radical overhaul of the current business migrant scheme.
In an attempt to boost economic performance by making New Zealand more attractive for business and entrepreneurial migrants, a number of important changes will be made to the existing scheme by November 2009.
"For investor migrants the previously existing three categories are streamlined to two, with more realistic requirements for capital, language skills and time… Continue

Hi, wondering if you can give us any advice or point us in the right direction with our visa issue:
Applied for skilled (bricklayer) sponsored (sister) visa 176, then bricklayer taken off CSL so applied for state sponsor (approved). I have a job offer in Australia with brother in law who has own building company but as he only employs staff on a sub-contract basis cannot sponsor me as 'employee sponsor' (i think). We are now back to priority 5 & our visa will not be… Continue
