Australia visas remain at record high

These remain for the fourth year in a row at the highest levels in Australian history at 190,000 permanent residency places.

These are broken down with 128,550 for skilled migration (including General Skilled Migration, permanent Employer Sponsorship and Business Skills) and 57,400 places for family migration. The remaining places out of this 190,000 comprise 565 under the Special Eligibility stream and 3,485 for Child category migrants.

More foreign workers needed in Western Australia

An extensive report has backed business claims that more migrant workers are needed in Western Australia.

The report, from Edith Cowan University, and covered in WA Today,concluded that Australians in the eastern states were too reluctant to make the move west, and universities are not adequately preparing students.

Flight Centre sale

Record number of job vacancies in Australia

2010 has seen the biggest annual increase in Australian jobs on record.


Additionally the jobless rate in Australia fell to 5 percent, the lowest since January 2009, from 5.2 percent a month earlier partly because some people stopped looking for work.

Australian government looks to protect immigrants

Anyone from the UK planning a move to Australia have been warned of scams that leave them broke and without a visa.

Immigration Minister Chris Bowen has launched a new online tool to help keep potential immigrants on the right path.
