Get Me Downunder

The Adventure Starts Here

Gap year travellers can find a variety of jobs in Australia and depending on which part of the country you are in, it can vary from fruit picking, working in bars to answering phones in a call centre. Whether you are going on your gap year to Australia or migrating, there are lots of companies and organisations that can help you find a job. Upon arriving Down Under there are a few things that you can do to help yourself stand out from the crowd.

  1. Take work clothes with you. It’s one of the most common things people forget. You pack your bikini and flip flops but remember that you won’t be able to wear those for an interview so if you arrive in Australia without any smart clothes, you will need to spend unnecessary money on such items when you could be using that money for something more fun.
  2. If possible, possess different versions of your CV ready for different job roles. Ask your employers or teachers in England for written character references that you can take with you so you are already prepared. This can give you an edge over others going for the same job.
  3. Keep talking. Jobs are not always advertised on websites so it’s always worth asking around when you arrive in a new place. Asking other travellers in hostels if they have any contacts can also prove invaluable.
