Get Me Downunder

The Adventure Starts Here

Apparently, despite a stern talking-to from the Australian government earlier this year, applications times for the processing of State and Territory sponsorships are increasing significantly.

The Australian government is keen to encourage the ststes to participate more fully in the skilled migration programme - so much so that Australia's Immigration Minister has directed that skilled visa applications that are sponsored by a State or Territory shall be processed as a priority over other skilled visa applications.

Despite that, processing times for visas in certain states are now even longer then before. In Western Australia for instance, an application for sponsorship of a subclass 176 visa application is now taking 3 to 4 months. The QLD Government tells candidates to expect a processing time of 4 months when their auto email to applicants advises 8 to 10 weeks.

Current advice is to ask your agent or state sponsor for a realistic timeframe for processing. Anyone got any update on this, please let us know.

Luck will certainly be needed for anyone not on CSL - we are now 12 months from application - chest x-rays done on 12th Sept following advice from agents and now been told they have no idea when we are likely to get looked at let alone recieve approval - soul destroying!

My subclass 175 was issued on 1st July, the application having been made on 3rd August. 11 months for a "priority" application (I'm lucky enough to be on the Critical Skills List). Good luck to anyone who isn't on the CSL!
